Professional Background:
Dr. Shailesh C. Kadakia has been practicing Gastroenterology
since 1985 when he completed his Fellowship in Gastroenterology
at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington,
D.C. He retired from the U.S. Army as Colonel in July
2001 after serving as the Gastroenterology Fellowship
Program Director at the Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC)
in San Antonio and as the Consultant to the Surgeon General
of the U.S. Army in Gastroenterology for 5 years. He was
also the Chief of the Department and the Director of Gastrointestinal
Endoscopy at BAMC where he served since 1988. Dr. Kadakia
currently holds an academic appointment at the University
of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio as the Clinical
Professor of Medicine. He started private practice with
Dr.Gabriel A. Magraner in August 2001 and is currently
with the Institute of Liver & Gastrointestinal Diseases
where he treats patients with esophageal, gastric, small
intestinal, colorectal, liver, and pancreatic diseases.
He is well experienced in many gastrointestinal endoscopic
procedures such as upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, ERCP
(examination and treatment of the bile duct and pancreatic
duct problems), and endoscopic ultrasound. He also has
expertise in esophageal manometry, esophageal acid testing,
capsule endoscopy and liver biopsy. Dr. Kadakia is board certified in Internal
Medicine, Gastroenterology, and Critical Care Medicine.
Dr. Kadakia has been an active researcher for over 17
years. Over the years, he has published over 60 scientific
papers, book chapters, and review articles. Dr. Kadakia
is currently involved in Hepatitis C research. He also
gives lectures and seminars on various topics such as
Acid Reflux Disease and Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

Offices and Hospitals
We have two locations to serve our patients, one in the
Northeast area and the other in North-central (Stone Oak)
area. The patients are seen on an appointment basis on
Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. The endoscopic
procedures are done everyday. The main hospitals where
we treat our patients are
Northeast Methodist Hospital, and North central Baptist
Hospital.
